XII INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL ON

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES

with the main topic

PREVENTION, DETECTION AND MANAGEMENT OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES

(Hotel “Splendid” − Budva, 6 - 10 September 2021)

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the work of the XII ECPD International Summer School of Cardiovascular Diseases (hereinafter referred to as: School), which ECPD traditionally organizes with the aim to advance the knowledge of primary care providers, specialists in cardiology and other specialties in the latest scientific and technological developments, as well as guidelines for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The program will focus on the latest research, technological advances and case study reviews as well as discussions on the guidelines and latest treatment options regarding the prevention, early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases. The School is intended for primary health care doctors and specialists (cardiologists, endocrinologists, internists, pediatricians, etc.).

President of the School Council is Academician Prof. Dr. Vladimir Kanjuh, SASA, Belgrade, Director of the School is Academician Prof. Dr. Nathan Wong, University of California, USA, and Co-Directors of the School are Prof. Dr. Ian Graham, Trinity College, Ireland, Academician Prof. Dr. Miodrag Ostojić, SASA, Belgrade and Academician Prof. Dr. Duško Vulić, University of Banja Luka.

The School is internationally and nationally accredited, including accreditation by the European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC) with 23 CME credits for the participants.

By the Health Council of Serbia, the School is accredited as an International course of the 1st category with 14 points for lecturers and 7 points for participants. Accreditation number of the School is А-1-83/21.

The necessity and justification for this education is confirmed by fact that despite the guidelines for the treatment of acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, atrial fibrillation and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, many patients, especially in the South-East European region remain inadequately treated for risk factors, acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, or atrial fibrillation and adherence to treatments is not optimal. Latest surveys from EUROASPIRE III and EUROASPIRE IV show that many patients with pre-existing coronary artery disease are not on recommended therapies and treatment patterns vary considerably between regions, even within a limited geographic region such as the South-East European (SEE). Data often show that while treatment of individual risk factors may be adequate, combined treatment and goal attainment for multiple risk factors, such as LDL-C, blood pressure and A1C levels together with diabetes is often insufficient, requiring implementation of systemic efforts addressed to all required risk factors both in primary and secondary prevention.
